ANNOUNCEMENT
REMONDIS Australia, the Australian arm of privately owned global waste management leader REMONDIS Group, has released Impact Report 2024.
In 2021 REMONDIS Australia aligned our sustainability approach to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), using the SDG framework combined with local materiality assessments to focus our ambitions.
Demonstrating transparency around the company’s sustainability approach, this Impact Report 2024 documents and reflects upon our environmental, social and governance achievements and performance in the calendar year 2024.
REMONDIS Australia achieved the majority of targets it set for itself for 2024. Highlights of the company’s 2024 environment, sustainability and governance performance include:
- Most REMONDIS sites under our control using 100% renewable electricity from 1 January 2025, including due to further rollouts of our National Solar Initiative Read on
- Extended our plastics recycling capabilities by installing LDPE processing and pelletisation line in WA Read on
- Increased tonnage of paper and cardboard diverted from landfill, and hazardous chemicals treated
- Achieved Green Star waste management contractor accreditation for our operations in ACT
- Signed a Waste Supply Agreement with Kwinana Energy Recovery, making diversion from landfill to energy recovery a solution for our commercial customers in Perth Read on
- Gave a further 24,000 customers access to their service, operational and environmental data via our Client Portal Read on
- Launched an Industrial Services Training Pathway program for socially disadvantaged workers, in collaboration with Indigenous-owned Gnalla Enviro Read on
REMONDIS Australia’s sustainability practice is overseen by Executive General Manager Technical Conor Flynn, with National Sustainability Manager Guy Raithby-Veall and his team.
In introducing this year’s report, CEO Björn Becker remarked on a year of significant transformation in the company’s approach to sustainability reporting and governance reflecting shifts in reporting requirements in Australia and in Europe.
“As we enter this transformative era of mandatory climate reporting in Australia, I am confident that REMONDIS Australia is well-prepared to meet the challenges and seize the opportunities ahead. Our proactive approach to sustainability has always been about more than compliance, it’s about contributing to a more sustainable future and delivering value to all our stakeholders,” said Mr Becker.
