REMONDIS is a full-service waste management company with specialised food organics expertise, a dedicated fleet, and our own composting facilities in NSW. Catering to the specific demands of NSW businesses within the accommodation sector, cafes, bars and restaurants, food manufacturing, aged care facilities and childcare centres, we devise personalised solutions to reach your food recycling targets and ensure compliance with NSW's incoming FOGO Recycling Act.
From 1 July 2026, the NSW Government will begin phasing in new Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) recycling requirements for commercial businesses. For affected business – including cafes, restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, hospitals, aged care and child care centres and more – it means separating food waste from general waste to enable organics recycling... and to avoid substantial fines for non-compliance. If your business prepares or serves food, now’s the time to make a plan.
FOGO compliance is mandatory and penalties will apply. The good news is that early preparation minimises disruption and reduces exposure to rising Waste Levies, plus well-planned organics recycling can lower your general waste costs and support your sustainability goals.
Call REMONDIS for help. We’ll conduct a free waste audit, assess your organic and non-organic waste types and volume, and recommend a solution customised for your business scale and operations.

When we refer to food waste or food organics, we mean both solid and liquid nutrients we drink and eat such as fruit and vegetables, meat and fish, pastries, delicatessen, dairy, confectionery and grocery.
Food organics recycling services vary across states and territories, so it’s important to check the materials acceptable to your provider. Here’s a guide:
All these food waste materials can be used in compost production, contributing to a more sustainable future.
Please note that these guidelines may vary depending on recycling site practices, and state government legislation and regulation.
By following these guidelines, your business can help reduce its environmental impact and improve your food waste recycling efficiency.
If you haven’t started separating your food waste yet, there’s still time. We can help work out how much food is in your general waste bin and put together a better deal for your services.
Our commercial food organics recycling services cater to hospitality businesses, including restaurants, cafes, fast food outlets, food service providers, pubs and hotels, plus food manufacturers, hospitals, markets, aged care facilities, schools and universities.
Essentially, any business that produces, handles or receives food waste and wants to manage it well.

By choosing our commercial food organics recycling service, your business will reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill.
Landfill Levies are charged for general waste going to landfill but not for food organics.
By separating recyclable food waste from your general waste, you reduce your general waste volumes going to landfill.
You may also be able to reduce the frequency of your general waste collection, or the size of your general waste bins.

Not quite everything. Food organics bins can be used to recycle a wide range of food waste including fruit and vegetable material, cooked or uncooked food, meat, poultry, eggs, eggshells, fish and other seafood, bread, rice, pasta, cereals, tea leaves, coffee grounds, and dairy products.
However, we do not accept any packaging or packaged food, other recyclables (such as paper & cardboard, glass, cans), coffee cups, paper towels, or anything plastic.
If you cannot eat it, it should not go into the organics bin.
We provide you with a separate, clearly labelled, food organics bin so that food waste is separated from general waste or other recycling bins in your premises. We call this ‘source separation’ and it’s an essential part of the recycling process because it’s very difficult to extract recyclables from combined waste after it has been collected.
Your food organics bin will be collected by a dedicated vehicle, and transported to a specialised Organics Resource Recovery Facility (ORRF) to be processed into compost, biofuel, or other valuable resources.
At our state-of-the-art ORRFs, the food waste is shredded and any contaminants are removed. It is then mixed with garden waste to achieve optimal moisture levels and loaded into purpose-built, sealed tunnels to reduce odour and maintain optimal composting conditions.
Within just two weeks, these piles break down into nutrient-rich compost and mulch, which can be used on parks, gardens, agriculture, and sporting grounds.
By choosing REMONDIS commercial food organics recycling services, you’re reducing the amount of food waste sent to landfill and contributing to a more sustainable future.
