Organic Resource Recovery Facility
In 2001, REMONDIS Australia established the Organic Resource Recovery Facility (ORRF) for the Port Macquarie Hastings Council in NSW.
Utilising in-vessel composting technology, the ORRF converts kerbside organics and biosolids into valuable compost products which are subsequently sold to commercial and domestic users. Domestic mixed solid waste is mechanically separated and the organic fraction biologically stabilised for use as landfill cover and remediation material, resulting in a diversion rate in excess of 60% of the total input stream. Ever increasing volumes of organics has resulted in the need to expand the tunnel composting sections with upgrades to the biosolids storage and mechanical mixing plant as well as the addition of two tunnels in 2007, taking the total number of tunnels to ten.
